The Elbow Valley is one of Kananaskis’ most diverse recreation areas, easily accessible from Calgary. It offers extensive trail networks for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, fat biking, equestrian use, and off-highway vehicles, along with several campgrounds ranging from powered sites to rustic riverfront camping with excellent trail access.

Sheep River Valley

Accessible from the Diamond Valley area, the Sheep River Valley is centred around the Sheep river that carves through the landscape. This valley offers a variety of front-country camping options, including powered sites at Sandy McNabb, ample equestrian sites and regular camping options at both Sandy McNabb and Bluerock. From May long weekend until September long weekend (weather dependent), shower facilities are available.

The Sheep River Valley is a popular destination for hiking, fishing, cycling, crosscountry skiing, and horseback riding. Trails here connect to a broader network that spans into adjacent wildland areas.

Journey to the southern portion of Kananaskis to experience the wild, untamed beauty of the Highwood. This valley is a haven for anglers, hikers, and equestrian users seeking a more remote experience. With the magnificent Highwood Pass to the North, this area offers a profound sense of solitude and a chance to connect with nature on a grand scale.
